Mai-Otome

You know I would be the first person to say that subs are better than dubs then it comes to Anime’s. Call it the anime purist in me, call it a record of bad dubs over the years. I’ve just never been one to watch dubs over the years. But sometimes I am willing to make an exception if the dub is done so well that I prefer a dub over a sub. Mai-Otome is one such anime.

Airing in 2005 under the direction of Masakazu Obara (My-HiME and Guilty Crown) Mai-Otome was a spinoff of the 2004 My-HiME based on an alternate world set sometime in the future. Mai-Otome is almost like a retelling of the 2004 My-HiME. All of the My-HiME characters are there but the world they are in is completely different.

Warcraft Realm Status Block

This is something that I've had working in the past on previous sites but recently I had to build it up all over again using the new Battle.net API. To be honest I was a bit intimidated by this. You see I am not exactly the worlds greatest expert on javascript, jquery, and json. My scripting language knowledge base is very limited in that regard. Nevertheless I did finally figure out how to build it and I am making this post as both a reminder for myself (and to other people who may stumble along) so I don't forget how to do it.

Photoblog -Froberg's Farm Nov 2014

Earlier in the week I went back to Froberg's Farm to pick up some pecans for a few deserts. We found it to be a lot cheaper to pick these up at the farm versus the grocery store due to the volume that we wanted to purchase. We ended up getting 5 lb sack of cracked whole pecans for around $27, of which we got about 4 lbs of pecans which averaged out to about $6.75 a lb. At the grocery store you can get a 8 oz package for about $5.50 (maybe $4-$4.50 if they are on sale). The only downside was that the pecans were imported from Georgia (not Texas!) but I've been hearing that Texas has been having a bad crop lately due to the past seasons.

Marvel MCU Predictions

I am fast becoming a huge fan of Marvel Studios and their Marvel Cinematic Universe. I honestly can't think of any time that we have seen a franchise attempt this huge crossover between TV, Movies, and Comic at the scale that Marvel is doing. Star Trek attempted this to some extent back when DS9 was running. You would see small glimpses of he show mentioned in TNG movies. But they were nothing more than name dropping and it never really materialized into anything beyond that. I really was a wasted opportunity. This is only one of the reasons why I appreciate what Marvel is doing.

Photoblog - 2014 Houston Japan Festival

You know you are behind when you post something that is 6 months late. The Houston Japan Festival is an annual event held in Herman Park held each year in April. I took these pictures with my phone. I had a bunch of pictures that I had taken with my Lumix GF-3 but unfortunately I lost the SD card. Since then I've purchased a new laptop and a NAS as backup. In the future I hope that new NAS along with Onedrive should be sufficient to keep my images safe.

IOTA Theme

I have been making a lot of these themes lately. Mostly it is just me catching up with old projects that I had put on hold in the past. This is another one of those projects. The International Occultation Timing Association (IOTA) is an astronomy association whose website is managed by a family friend. Their old site looked like something out of a bad 1990's Hollywood film. It was a pain to navigate around and it was updated using Frontpage and MS Word. Of course I shouldn't be surprised. Many people don't know that astronomy types tend to use old reliable technology, not the most up to date technology (example: NASA still uses slide rules on occasion).

Froberg's Farm

I had made a previous post about Froberg's Farm but I lost it all when I accidentally formatted my drive. Thankfully all of the images were saved so I can remake the post about this place. There are a lot of little places like this in Alvin and I plan on going back here soon to see if they have any pecans on sale.

These pictures are from my visit back in February when their Strawberry Patch was in season.

Coach & Player Magazine Theme

This layout isn't so much something I would make for a full production website but is more like a proof of concept. I knew some people at Coach & Player Magazine and they were looking at a redesign of their website so in my spare time I whipped this together to think of ideas for their website. My overall theme was to make it look clean and modern while maintaining functionality on a wide variety of platforms.

Keep in mind, this isn't a complete design, just the front page. It is also missing a lot of elements which is fine for a proof of concept. If they every get back with me and want something done I can always go back to this and show them what I thought up of.

Coldsolutions Theme

The ColdSolutions theme is something that I've had on the back burner for about 8 months now. It's from a job that fell through thus I never got to complete it. It's been siting in my projects folder for a while now staring at me saying "Please finish me, pretty please!" with big puppy eyes.

So I decided I go ahead and finish the page layout and publish it here as an example of my work. In the process I learned a few things in developing it that also helped with my KLv4 theme.

Dreamfall Chapters

If I get a little excited while writing this it is because I have been waiting seven long years for this game. It's been seven years since we last visited Stark, our world, in the future. The world of technology. It's been seven years since we wen to Arcadia, the world of magic. It's been seven years since we saw April Ryan tossed off the side of a pier into the water, left for dead. It's been seven years since Zoe Castillo was placed into a deep sleep by her mother seemingly to never wake up again. Seven years of a cliffhanger, seven years of speculation, seven years without a end to one of the greatest stories in a video game in the last decade.

Now the Seven Year wait is over. Dreamfall Chapters is here and now it's time to finish the Longest Journey.
