Anime: Arakawa under the Bridge

Lets all take a trip shall we, a trip under a Bridge. Where logic is illogical, where insanity is sane, and where a young man who thinks of himself as the next "Donald Trump" find himself living with a beautiful girl under a bridge because she saved his life and is now indebted to her to become her "lover". Yes I know that was a long sentence but it does get the point across that this anime is a bit on the loony side.

Plot
Kou Ichinomiya is a man who has accomplished everything by himself. Ever since he was little, his father has taught him one rule: to never be indebted to another person. One day by accident, he falls into a river and almost drowns. A girl by the name of Nino rescues him and in turn he owes her his life. Unable to accept the fact that he is indebted to her, he askes her about a way for him to repay her. In the end she tells him to love her. This is the beginning of Kou's life living under a bridge. However, as Kou starts to learn, Arakawa is a place full of weirdos and all of the people living under the bridge are what society would call, "denpasan".

Arakawa isn't your normal anime. Normal isn't something that described Arakawa under the Bridge at all. It's just plain weird. First off you got Nino, who well, lives under a bridge and claims she's from the planet Venus. She often forgets important information and often needs to be reminded of important facts by Kou "Recruit". She sleeps in a cardboard box structure with a large curtain covering the entrance. She has a large regal looking bed, but she doesn't sleep on it, no she sleeps in the storage drawers UNDER the bed. Yeah this girl has a screw loose, or two, or three....

The other characters are more wacky than Nino, you have the Village Chief who is dressed head to toe in a Kappa suit who requires that everyone who wants to live under the bridge be given a new name provided by him. Hoshi is a singer wh o wears a star mask over a moon mask and whose songs make no sense what so ever. Sister is a huge military man dressed as a Nun who holds "sermons" under the bridge in a makeshift chapel. Shiro will only walk on white lines so he carries around a chalk line painter in front of him wherever he goes. Even Kou could be considered a wacko for trying to not be indebted to ANYONE for ANY reason. He agrees to live under a bridge simply to fulfill his debt to Nino. If he can't pay someone back for doing him a favor he has an asthma attack. >.<

Now if i sounds like all of these people belong in an insane asylum you wouldn't be too far off the mark. These people are crazy, but somehow they all seem normal as well. Despite their varying personalities you get a sense that they are all normal people simply trying to make sense out of a senseless world. Trying to live as normally as people in their situation can bear.

Course it helps that the stories are funny as hell. I'll be honest, I have to pause this Anime every time I watch it, because I'm always laughing my ass off. Literally, I can't stop laughing. This Anime is one of those shows where the stories are so stupid, so outlandish, it's funny! That's Arakawa under the Bridge, an outlandish, funny, insane, anime about insane people, trying to live a normal life, in an insane world. Can't wait till the next episode.

See you under the bridge.

Opening

One of the best part of this show is hat during the preview for the next episode they have a video os a real life person in a Kappa suit wading around a river. Quite amusing I must say. ^.^
